Meet The Artist
Born in the vibrant town of Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, Cassan Francois grew up immersed in the rich cultural tapestry of her homeland. From an early age, Cassan demonstrated a profound curiosity about the world around her. Her father, a self-taught artist with a passion for sketching and storytelling, became her first inspiration. Evenings spent at the family table were often transformed into art lessons, as her father guided her small hands to create simple sketches of flowers, landscapes, and the bustling streets of their town. These moments laid the foundation for her love of art and a lifelong dream to capture beauty and emotion through her work.
When Cassan was nine, her family’s life took a dramatic turn. Seeking new opportunities, her parents decided to move to the United States, settling in East orange, New Jersey. Though excited about the new chapter, Cassan struggled to adjust to the cultural and linguistic differences in her new environment. Art, however, became her refuge. Drawing was not just an activity but a way for her to stay connected to her roots and the memories of her time in Haiti.
In the U.S., Cassan’s passion for art continued to grow. With limited access to formal art classes, she turned to technology as her teacher. YouTube became her classroom, and she spent countless hours studying “How To” videos created by professional and amateur artists alike. Through tutorials on techniques like shading, color blending, and perspective drawing, Cassan honed her skills. This self-driven learning process not only improved her artistry but also instilled in her a deep sense of discipline and perseverance.
By the time Cassan reached high school, her talent was undeniable. Her art teachers often praised her unique style, which blended vibrant Haitian influences with contemporary techniques. In her senior year, she entered a school-wide competition to design the yearbook cover and won. The piece, a dynamic portrayal of diversity and unity, became a source of pride for the student body and further solidified her identity as an artist. This achievement gave her the confidence to envision a future where her art could reach a broader audience.
After graduating from high school, Cassan’s dedication and academic achievements earned her acceptance into the academic program at the University of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, New Jersey. There, she majored in Fine Arts and Psychology and spent four transformative years learning under the guidance of experiences professors. She experimented with different mediums, from charcoal, acrylics and oils to digital illustration, pushing the boundaries of her creativity. Her work often reflected themes of resilience, identity, and her Haitian heritage. Graduating with honors, Cassan emerged with not just a Bachelor’s degree but a refined artistic vision and a renewed sense of purpose.
Post-college, Cassan embarked on a journey of continuous self-improvement. She attended workshops, explored new techniques to keep her skills sharp and develop her own signature style. During this time, she also decided to channel her passion into entrepreneurship. She founded Cassan Studio, a creative venture dedicated to producing original artwork, custom commissions, and home décor inspired by her signature style.
Today, Cassan continues to expand her artistic horizons and dreams of showcasing her work on an international stage. She also takes the time to inspire people around her to seek out their dreams and live in it. As she looks toward the future, Cassan remains grounded in the values that shaped her journey: perseverance, gratitude, and a deep love for her craft. Her art, imbued with the spirit of her Haitian heritage and her personal experiences, serves as a bridge between the past and the present. Cassan’s story is a testament to the power of dreams and the enduring impact of family, culture, and resilience. Through her work, she hopes to continue sharing her vision with the world, one painting at a time.
